On Pride Weekend 2017, get ready for a performance of Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance that’s sure to be unlike anything the Twin Cities has ever seen! Set on Raspberry Island in downtown St. Paul, One Voice Mixed Chorus presents a topsy-turvy, gender-bending musical adventure for the whole family, featuring a lesbian pirate king and her swarthy crew of sailors arriving by speedboat, an uproarious appearance from the Major General’s “daughters,” and more! Soloists showcase One Voice singers along with guest artists from among the Twin Cities’ best musical theater actors. Ben Krywosz, artistic director for Nautilus Theater, serves as artistic consultant, and Gary Briggle as stage director, with musical direction by Jane Ramseyer Miller. Join us on the banks of Mississippi River–in your best pirate costume–for a weekend of dancing and frivolity, plus a live band and plenty of sing-along opportunities for the audience.
It’s our favorite time of year and we can’t wait to celebrate! Hope you’re feelin’ brave because this year’s theme is all things “Truth or Dare” (and other slightly modified classics). Join us, June 24th at the Cabooze, for our 4th Annual Summer Camp and let’s give MPLS a PRIDE event to remember! Check out some of this year’s features below:
Seven Minutes in Heaven (Lounge): Need a comfortable place to have a little “get-to-know-ya” with that special queer cutie?! We’ve gotcha covered. Enjoy lounge seating with a view in the “Seven Minutes in Heaven Lounge”. It’s the perfect place to have a private conversation or scope out all the action from the party below. No VIP required.
Midnight Challenge: And now a moment of truth…or dare. We invite contestants, from our beautiful queer audience, to play a gutsy game of “Truth or Dare” on stage. Participants will compete for a a chance to win sponsored prizes from Hell’s Kitchen, MPSL Tattoo, Pat’s Tap, and Smitten Kitten. Prize values will be weighted on challenge level, so a little liquid courage may be required.
The Truth or Dare Tower: Step onto the patio for a challenging game of giant Jenga (Truth or Dare style). Be sure to carefully choose your next move – you never know what you may be asked to do.
Giant QUEER Pong: We’re taking everyones favorite beer guzzling game to a new level. The Cabooze patio will feature enlarged queer pong games to test out your fancy skillz. No fear, these over-sized solo cups will be filled with water rather than booze, allowing you to play with whatever self-purchased beverage you please.
Fake “Flash” Tattoo Parlor: We DARE you to get some ink! Don’t worry these temporary designs won’t leave you filled with impulse decision regret. Choose from a selection of custom flash tattoos courtesy of our friends over at MPLS Tattoo.
Ticket to Ride: One lucky raffle winner will be taking home a brand new Pony Express (46 cm) compliments of All-City Cycles (http://www.allcitycycles.com/bikes/pony_express). That’s right, for a mere $3 you could be taking home this rad new ride (a $999 value). Be sure to grab a raffle ticket (or two) when you arrive – winner will be announced at midnight.
Late Night Patio Snacks: A night full of dancing can certainly work up an appetite. We’ll be serving all the junk-food classics at the Cabooze Canteen on the patio. Details to come.
