A Night Out with Chelsea Handler @ The State Theatre
Jun 5 @ 8:00 pm – 10:00 pm

Plan for a fun and lively evening full of substance. This is not your typical stand up show – it is a town hall-like event centered around social activism. No topic is off limits. The event is meant to be inclusive for people of all different political backgrounds. The goal is to have honest, respectful, and productive conversations and for participants to openly share opinions about the issues and obstacles we face as a country. Expect to hear a current events conversation that could include Gun Violence, Immigration, EPA/Energy Policy, LGBTQ Rights, Infrastructure with Q&A to follow.

Local television personality, Jana Shortal, will host this conversation.

With Chelsea, you know there will be plenty of comedy sprinkled in! These are not debates. This is a time to bring people together, challenge your own thinking, and have fun doing it.

An opera by Gregory Spears

Libretto by Greg Pierce

Based on the 2007 novel “Fellow Travelers” by Thomas Mallon

Developed and Co-Commissioned by G. Sterling Zinsmeyer and Cincinnati Opera

This story of a forbidden love affair between two men in 1950s McCarthy-era Washington D.C., Fellow Travelers is a searing opera infused with political drama, unexpected humor, and sincere heartbreak. A chance encounter between recent college graduate Timothy Laughlin and handsome State Department official Hawkins Fuller results in Tim’s first job—and his first love affair with a man. As McCarthy mounts a desperate bid for power and internal investigations focus on removing “sexual subversives” in the government, Tim and Fuller find it increasingly dangerous to navigate their double lives.

Sung in English with English captions projected above the stage.
