One Voice Mixed Chorus, Minnesota’s LGBTA chorus, presents four FREE performances of The Pirates of Penzance, Gilbert and Sullivan’s operetta, at the Schubert Club Bandshell on Raspberry Island in the middle of the Mississippi River in downtown St. Paul but with a twist…
One Voice’s gender-bending “Pirates” will be complete with a lesbian pirate King and her swarthy crew of sailors. The show features the Major General’s daughters (men in dresses), dancing, frivolity, a live band and plenty of sing-along opportunities for the audience. Special thanks to the Knight Arts Challenge for their generous support.
On Pride Weekend 2017, get ready for a performance of Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance that’s sure to be unlike anything the Twin Cities has ever seen! Set on Raspberry Island in downtown St. Paul, One Voice Mixed Chorus presents a topsy-turvy, gender-bending musical adventure for the whole family, featuring a lesbian pirate king and her swarthy crew of sailors arriving by speedboat, an uproarious appearance from the Major General’s “daughters,” and more! Soloists showcase One Voice singers along with guest artists from among the Twin Cities’ best musical theater actors. Ben Krywosz, artistic director for Nautilus Theater, serves as artistic consultant, and Gary Briggle as stage director, with musical direction by Jane Ramseyer Miller. Join us on the banks of Mississippi River–in your best pirate costume–for a weekend of dancing and frivolity, plus a live band and plenty of sing-along opportunities for the audience.
The Beer Dabbler at Twin Cities Pride is back for a sixth year of celebrating and supporting the GLBTQ community. In the spirit of diversity and inclusion, this year each participating brewery will craft a unique beer inspired by the Lady Gaga song of their choosing.
Why did The Beer Dabbler choose to go Gaga this year? “Lady Gaga has been one of pop culture’s proudest and most outspoken advocates for the GLBTQ community,” said Beer Dabbler Event Coordinator Kevin Stocks. “Her spirit of embracing individual differences and shining a light on injustice deserves a great big ‘Cheers!’”
Dabblers can sample their way through Lady Gaga-inspired beers, many of which will only be available at the festival, including a New England-style IPA from Fair State Brewing Cooperative called “Baby You’ll be Famous,” or Bad Weather Brewing Company’s “Pucker Face” raspberry wheat sour. Exactly how the participating breweries choose to interpret their chosen Lady Gaga song is up to them, so attendees can expect a wide range of unique and one-off beers.
Beyond the beer, Dabblers will again be able to enjoy food trucks, live music (specific acts TBA), and more festival fun in Loring Park to help kick off the Twin Cities Pride Festival. A portion of every ticket sold will benefit Twin Cities Pride.
When: Friday, June 23, 5:30-9:30pm
