| Judith "Jack" Halberstam speaks on "Phony Femininities in the Age of Gaga" |
June 24, 2010
The Graduate Interdisciplinary Group in Sexuality Studies is happy to welcome Judith "Jack" Halberstam for a lecture in Cowles Auditorium at the Humphrey Institute at the University of Minnesota's West Bank. How appropriate it is that J. Jack Halberstam is here with us as we commemorate the anniversary of the Stonewall riots, an important marker in the modern US LGBTQ social movement. About J. Jack Halberstam: A graduate of the University of Minnesota, Halberstam is Professor of English and Director of The Center for Feminist Research at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. Halberstam teaches courses in queer studies, gender theory, art, literature, and film. As well, Halberstam is the author of "Female Masculinity," "The Drag King Book," "Skin Shows: Gothic Horror and the Technology of Monsters," and a new book from NYU Press titled "In a Queer Time and Place: Transgender Bodies, Subcultural Lives." Visit Halberstam's website: http://www.egomego.com/judith/home.htm Following the lecture, there will be a reception and book signing at the Humphrey Atrium. This event is free and open to the public! All are welcome. For more information, contact Beng Chang at schochet@umn.edu or call 612-626-2562.
